Lt. Governor John Carney's Foreclosure Prevention Task Force to Host Two Meetings for Homeowners and Banks
Lt. Governor John Carney's Foreclosure Prevention Task Force will host two meetings on Saturday, August 2nd to help homeowners learn more about the foreclosure process in Delaware and give them an opportunity to meet individually with mortgage servicers and housing counselors. The events, co-sponsored by New Castle County, the State Bank Commissioner's Office, the Federation of State Housing Counselors, and Delaware ACORN, will take place from 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM at the Outlook/Duncan Center in Dover and from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the James H. Gilliam, Sr. Building in New Castle, DE.
"The foreclosure crisis throughout Delaware and the country is well-known," said Lt. Governor John Carney. "We know the difficult situations many homeowners find themselves in. Education is the key to helping people stay in their houses. Events like this help people understand their options and allow people to take action before it's too late."
Saturday's meetings will start with a presentation from Deputy Bank Commissioner Gerry Kelly on the foreclosure process in Delaware. Following the presentation, homeowners will have the opportunity to meet one-on-one with banks, loan servicers, and housing counselors to discuss their individual situations. Representatives from Chase, SunTrust Mortgage, Inc, Countrywide will be available to help residents in Dover with Citi and Option One joining the others in New Castle.
"I hope our residents come out and take advantage of this opportunity to meet with servicers here in Delaware," said Gerry Kelly. "This is a unique opportunity to meet with representatives of the major servicers of mortgage loans. We will provide updated information on Federal and State programs and also on the latest scams and fraud we see in Delaware. If you are behind in your mortgage or have an adjustable rate mortgage, this meeting may help save your home."
"We're proud to be part of this effort to reach out to Delaware homeowners," said Angela Walker President of Delaware ACORN. "The best way we can help people is by educating them, and making sure they understand their current situation. Meetings like this are essential. We need to give homeowners all the tools they need to avoid foreclosure and remain in their homes."
